Why is this so important?
Protecting your emotions in a time when life is very stressful is important. Treating the disease is only one part of the healing process. The other part is protecting our minds and spirit. It’s very easy to let your emotions take over in scary times.

1. First, always listen to your body. If anyone knows exactly how you feel it’s you. Be truthful with yourself. If your body is telling you, you need to rest or you need a nap, Listen. If your body is saying I think it’s time to get up and get moving, get up and take a walk or whatever it is that makes you happy. Read your favorite books, listen to your most loved music. Lean on your support system. Keep telling yourself I got this! I can do this! The body has a way of helping you battle through hard times.
2. Second, as hard as it is, stay positive. In a world that seems like it is crashing down around you, depression can set you up for a whole host of rollercoaster emotions. It is important to recognize this emotion; it is also important to not let depression linger for too long. Ask yourself, where are you in this battle? How far have you come? What are your challenges? Have a journal handy to write down all your emotions that are running through your mind. Sometimes when you can see the questions and find the answers it helps to give more clarity to an already stressful situation. If you are really struggling with your emotions, a therapist is also someone who can help you sort through your feelings. Do what makes you feel the best at a time that feels the worst.
3. Third, talk to your doctor, let them know how you are feeling. The doctor is there for you, to listen to you. Be truthful with yourself and with your doctor. Remember, the doctors and the medical team don’t know how you are feeling or what your emotions are unless you talk to them. They are there to help you. The medical team have tools in their toolbox to help you through all the hurdles that come with battling cancer.
4. Finally, as you look through the website, you will see that I say quite a few times, let yourself feel the anger, scream, get mad but don’t stay there. I say this because if you stay in a bad place your mind has a way of spinning out of control, giving into the cancer that is taking over. Don’t let the cancer win. Remember, you oversee your health, your thoughts, and your body. When you keep a positive mindset, it is a way to tell the cancer you are not winning. I will win, my life will continue.
I hope you find the strength you need to battle through. I am a big believer in faith and prayers. Praying and allowing others to pray for me lifted me up and showed me I would be okay; I can do this. God is always walking with us. It’s up to us to recognize it. It is just that. A battle that is not easy but one you can win. Never say never! Put it out in the universe, claim that this is a battle you will win. Tell yourself I am Cancer free! As always, CancerPathGuide will be here for you.
